They're not competition - get over it already. I don't wanna hear about "increasing their post counts" - they barely have a post count WITH the few comments I and a couple of others put there HARDLY EVER. "That" thread has 16 posts from us in a week and pretty much nothing elsewhere in the month or so before that - yeah we're just burning up the servers over there, gotta tell ya... Some of the first page threads sometimes go 2 and 3 weeks untouched. And don't gimme this "we're keeping them alive" stuff either, because it's nonsense. How about instead of giving a few people grief about commenting at a place that's referred to as competition, someone go after some dissenting opinion people and bring them here???????????? Seems like a novel approach, ya think??? Most of the people over there would never come over here anyway because we discuss NEWS, something that the majority of them obviously don't care about at all or they'd be discussing it on their own. So, my position stands - get over it already.

I'll freely admit that I like the debate. I can't debate with those that I agree with. Cal is right though, it's not like those of us who may post over there are keeping them afloat. They are sinking daily. Personally I think there is plenty to go around. Frankly, you could use some Lefties here but I don't see it happening. That doesn't mean though that Cal or I don't support this site as well. It doesn't have to be one or the other as far as I can see.

Old argument - proven wrong repeatedly. Periods of time go by when there's like NObody posting there, it happens over and over again, yet they're not coming here. Recently half the threads on the first page had gone 2 and 3 weeks untouched. You're talking about different types of people. Most of them are not interested in news, and most are surely not interested in politics. Hardly anyone is even reading that thread, by the way. If they went down, most of them would disappear into cyberspace because they'd clearly be outgunned over here by a crowd of people who actually make the effort to be informed and God-forbid talk about things that mean something. Over there, the informed are the clear minority - always has been. Over here, the opposite is clearly the case and that won't change by people who clearly know that if they come over here, they'd get ganged up on by people who quite frankly know what the hell they're talking about. You want dissenting opinion, you're gonna have to find them elsewhere. The only dissenting opinion over there that I can think of who's adult enough to admit when the other side is correct is Chronic, and he hasn't posted here since November '08. Not to mention that those whose names rhyme with vegetables - who needs 'em... Are there a few people that would be welcome here that wouldn't lower the average IQ of this site? Definitely, but they're already registered here and they're not posting at either site. So you need to come up with a better one than they'd post here if a few of us weren't posting there. I say we have a designated "Leftie" of the week on the site! That would liven things up a bit. I just finished watching UP with the kids the other day (great movie BTW) and think we should incorporate the "Ring of Shame" with the leftie designation.

Lefty of the week. I kind of like that but I can see it being a bit hard for some of us to see possibilities that aren't there, heroes made up of liars and cheats and so on and so forth. Maybe I'll try it.

As far as the site goes, I don't see a competition. In my mind, the reason that KCT is falling apart is more because the owners don't do anything to keep it together. They gave power to people who abused it and they never owned up to the mistake. The other thing is that IMO a site takes on the personality of the owner at least in many aspects. The owners there don't post themselves so how can they expect others to post. When someone does make a new thread, rather than try to have a regular conversation, if an owner makes a post at all it is some little 3 word wise crack. Don't get me wrong I wise crack too and I make three word post but neither this nor that site is mine. I give the owners here credit for starting new threads and actually getting involved in most of the conversations in one way or another. That to me is the difference.

Again, IMO, no one here should get caught up in who is posting what, where. Keep doing what you're doing. The activity here is much greater than there so just go with it.

OK, as I attempt to morph into a liberal, I want to take this time to state that I completely understand the system - just because someone makes a comment that deserves a positive rep, it doesn't mean they should get it, because after all, what about the people who aren't getting as much? What about their feelings??? They may feel that they're not as well appreciated here, and that would hurt their self esteem - we don't want that here, do we? IT'S ALL ABOUT SHARING! SHARING IS CARING!!! Just like in the kids book The Rainbow Fish, it wasn't fair that one of the fish had all of the pretty scales while his friends had none. It was only right that they excluded him from all their fun and games until he agreed to give one of his pretty scales to each of his friends until he only had one himself so they were all equal and they'd play with him again. I think all hookers should have to charge the same lowered price so that the ones who happen to be less attractive obviously by no fault of their own will get more business too and so that all johns can afford whichever ones they want. It's only fair.

I coulda told you before he started posting as a Lefty that that would not cause him to short-circuit.
