COMMENTARY
By MIKE HENDRICKS The Kansas City Star
“It’s not just wishful thinking,” Councilman Ed Ford told me Tuesday morning.
He firmly believes that Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser will be booted out of office in a matter of months.
“He will not finish out his term,” Ford said.
At least, not if Ford and like-minded critics of the mayor can help it.
But here’s what I think: They’re flat wrong.
Slim and none are the chances Funkhouser gets tossed before his term ends in 2011.

What's happening to Funky is the product of a real reformer. This dude gets in and starts exposing and doing some reform, and the establishment needs him gone.

I hope he wins the lawsuit, but tells Gloria to stay the hell out.
I do not think he will be booted either. Like the City Council has the clout to help, not.

What about the council making a law aimed at him?

I think the city council is trying to waste time on drama until they can get another corrupt pal in there and get down to some good 'ol corruption.

I guess the fact that Funkhouser can't make a move without momma at his side doesn't bother you.
I couldn't vote in the mayoral election because I don't live in Kansas City. but I thought he was the most qualified candidate, and I was rooting for him all the way. However, I honestly don't understand how anyone can support him after all of the petty and small-minded shenanigans he has been involved in. If my wife insisted on hanging out at my workplace every day and it became an issue because she was abrasive and insulting, I'd tell her to get the hell out of my office.

I tell my wife that, and there's no one else in my office!
Funk is whooped, pure and simple.

i said about the same thing in another thread. I truely believe he needs to grow a pair and tell her to stay home where she belongs. I don't know of any public compnay that would allow the big guy in charge to have his wife tagging along at the office every day.

Public companies don't tell the CEO what to do.

Public companies don't tell the CEO what to do.So you think it's okay for her to go to work with him everyday? That's absurd.

That's for the voters to decide. What's absurd is the city council taking the people's time and energy usurping the authority of the duly elected mayor. If this is allowed to stand, then the city council will have the power to decide how the mayor runs his office from here on out. That precedent must not occur.

Um, actually they do. If the CEO mismanages the company, he gets fired by the Board of Directors.

I certainly can't speak for all voters, but I'd be willing to bet that a majority of voters wish they could have their vote back.
I think the absurd thing is a mayor who lets his wife invade the city government and act like a bull in a china closet. The absurd thing is that after the city council has enough of her crap and basically votes UNANIMOUSLY to expel her, that the mayor decides to waste everybody's time EVEN MORE and file a lawsuit.
This guy isn't a mayor. He's a joke.

Then vote him out next time around! There’s your voice, but I agree with Christopher on this one, and I really don't have much of an opinion on the mayor one way or another, but it has seemed clear to me from the outset that all this was specifically geared against him.

Perhaps that was a bad analogy because the CEO gets hired by the Board of directors. Funky got elected and this precedent can't be allowed to stand.
Round about February/March, a lot of voters are going to be wanting their vote back, too. But that's now how it works, dude. In both cases, the office is bigger than the man holding it at the present time. The office needs to be preserved and people need to vote better next time.
